Riane Trotman
Founding Partner
Biography
Riane Trotman is a founding partner of Archipelago Law and a specialist in transactional and commercial law, with particular expertise in banking and financial services, corporate and securities law, and aviation law.
Riane trained in England, completing the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP University, London before being called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2017. She joined the Trinidad & Tobago Bar in 2018, served as an Associate Professional at the Office of the Chief State Solicitor within the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs, and went on to practise as a Senior Associate in the transactional department of M. Hamel-Smith & Co — one of Trinidad and Tobago's most respected law firms.
Her practice encompasses corporate commercial advisory, banking and finance, capital markets, aviation law, and general research and legal opinions. She is a member of the Law Association of Trinidad & Tobago. Riane is also a published author on commercial legal topics, including pieces on force majeure and banking fraud prevention for the Trinidad & Tobago Guardian.
Riane brings a dual-qualified perspective to Archipelago Law, having been called to both the Bar of England and Wales (2017) and the Trinidad and Tobago Bar (2018). Her experience spans both the public and private sectors, from her time advising the state at the Office of the Chief State Solicitor to her transactional practice at one of the region's top-tier commercial firms. This breadth makes her a versatile and authoritative voice on cross-border financial transactions and aviation matters with a Caribbean nexus.
